MELAKA: A man was fined RM15,000 by the Sessions Court in Ayer Keroh here for keeping 78 pieces of exotic wild animal meats.
Judge Nariman Badruddin imposed the fine on Lim Yu Sing, 57, on five charges of storing the meat of the Bornean bearded boar, wild boar and porcupine without special permits.
Lim was fined RM3,000 or a month's jail for each charge. He paid the fines.
For the first charge, it was outlined that Lim had kept part of a Bornean bearded pig, which is fully protected under the Second Schedule of the Wildlife Conservation Act, without a special permit. He committed the offence at 9.30pm on Oct 8, 2017, near the Bemban-Serkam stretch, Ayer Keroh-Melaka Tengah-Jasin Highway.
The second charge stated that he had stored parts of a wild boar and Malayan porcupine that are covered under the First Schedule, Wildlife Conservation Act, on the same date and place.
The offence under Section 68(1)(b) of the same Act, carries a maximum fine of RM100,000 or imprisonment for up to three years or both if convicted.
As for the remaining five charges, Lim was accused under Section 60(1)(b) of the Act, which stipulates that it is an offence to keep parts of the three animals at an address in Taman Muhibbah, Merlimau, about 10.45pm on Oct 8, 2010.
