Over the past few weeks, banners, posters and billboards of various sizes displaying the image of popular Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan have begun to pop up in numerous regions outside of the capital, as he inches closer to the end of his term in October.
The roadside media seem to be trying to amplify his presence ahead of the presidential election in 2024. Some billboards openly endorse Anies for the 2024 presidential election, although others simply bear Idul Fitri wishes with his portrait.
It remains unclear whether the outgoing governor, who does not have enough political support to make a run for the presidency, approved the erection of the roadside media as he has yet to make any statements about it. But many of the banners and billboards carry the name of groups claiming to be Anies supporters.
