A HUGE earthquake has wreaked havoc on Osaka, causing walls to crumble and fires to start across the Japanese port city. Here’s everything you need to know about the disaster, the latest to hit the earthquake-prone country. Where is Osaka? The large port city in central Japan is the capital of Osaka prefecture. Located in the Keihanshin Metropolitan Area in the Kansai region of Japan, it is the second largest city in the country by daytime population. According to a 2015 census the city has around 2.6million inhabitants. What magnitude was the earthquake and how many people were killed? The earthquake hit Osaka on the morning of June 18, 2018, with a 6.1 magnitude on Japan’s quake scale – a level that makes it difficult to remain standing. Three people were killed in the devastation, and at least 300 people were injured. A nine-year-old girl died when she was knocked down by a concrete wall at her elementary school. A man in his 80s also died when a concrete wall collapsed. The third victim, an 84-year-old man, died after a bookshelf fell on top of him at his home.
